France, probably Paris
8 x 5.8 x 3.6 cm; gold, ruby and enamel; enamel is repaired under the swan’s wing, on its chest and on its tail, a more complete condition report available upon request.
This exquisite swan brooch was a symbol of wealth and status while echoing the opulence and intricate craftsmanship of the Middle Ages. Five different components make up this pendant and all are fifteenth-century, though their combination happened at a later date.
